Altona Bowling Club (My Local Club)

Altona Bowling Club (My Local Club) Tube. Duration : 3.87 Mins.

Altona Bowling Club is a happy and friendly place on the surface, but when it comes to pennant competition, this place isnt called the graveyard by opposition players for nothing. Over the past few years it has become very difficult for opposition teams to come to Altona and take away the points. This consistent home ground performance coupled with solid away wins has resulted in Altona Bowling Club winning 6 premier division pennants in the last decade. The club was formed in April of 1957 and the greens were built on council leased land that had previously been used by the scouts. The club currently boasts two grass greens and a new carpet synthetic green that was installed in 2005. The club has a membership of 200 bowling members (about 140 men and 60 ladies) and a large 600-strong social club membership base that also use the clubs facilities. Facilities at the club include a large dining area serviced by a bistro open Tuesday-Saturday evenings and for Friday lunch. The club hosted the junior development day and also sponsors handicapped athlete Kobe Lee Scott. The success that Altona Bowling Club has enjoyed can be attributed to the good planning by the club and the strong financial position that has developed as a result of the clubs many members.
