We were led to a supposedly authentic government craft emporium, but the prices in there were a bit steep. This lends credence to it being authentic as the guide books say everywhere else should be 20% cheaper. As we were leaving a supposed employee of the emporium suggested an alternative government craft emporium where things should be cheaper, and arranged a rickshaw to go there. He impressed upon us not to mention him as it might cost his job. Arriving at the alternative emporium, which was 3 storeys high, Adele made a beeline for the carpet department, and after nearly an hour of indecision settled on a Kashmiri carpet, then went looking for other stuff, so we ended up leaving with our second carpet, and some hand-made oil prints and batik. No more souvenirs in India thank you! Even a week later we're not sure if the store or our purchases are authentic...
